Q. What is the maximum amount of the Horizon Grant?

Accepted Answer

A.      Projects can request up to $10,000, but all projects must provide a 50/50 match, meaning if you request the full $10,000, you must be able to show a match of $10,000 as well.

Q. I have received a Horizon Grant in the past. Am I allowed to apply for another?

Accepted Answer

A. Previously receiving a Horizon Grant will affect your project’s score, however, it does not disqualify you from receiving another grant. To learn more about project scoring and ranking, see page 9 of the Program Guidelines(https://www.growmountrail.com/horizongrantapp)

Q. Who is eligible for Horizon Grants?

Accepted Answer

A. Eligible applicants must be located in Mountrail County and include: for-profit businesses, individuals, incorporated cities, park districts, and non-profit organizations.

Q. If approved, how do I receive grant funds?

Accepted Answer

A. Funds are paid out via a reimbursement process. Grant recipients must provide documentation that outlines the work completed or items purchased, along with proof of payment (e.g. receipts, invoices, canceled checks, etc.). Reimbursement requests are submitted with this form.(https://www.growmountrail.com/grant-payment-request) Once submitted, staff review and process. This can take up to two weeks. In certain instances, projects can request an advancement of funds.

Q. Can I apply for a project that was recently completed and/or for a project that is currently in progress?

Accepted Answer

A. Applications are only accepted for projects that have not started. Grant funds will not be awarded to a completed project.

Question 6

Q. What is the timeline for starting and completing my project?

Accepted Answer

A. Upon submission of a grant application, the project must be ready to begin in 3 months or less and must generally be completed within 12 months, unless an extension is approved. Determining factors will include the amount of funds available and the length of the extension requested.

Q. What documents do I need to apply?

A. Projects must provide:
·         ND Secretary of State Certificate of Good Standing
·         Employer tax documentation
·         Quotes/invoices showing estimates of the work to be done and/or purchases
·         Proof of ownership or building owner’s approval (façade improvement projects)
·         Business plan (expansion projects must include details of planned expansion)
·         Marketing approach (marketing and signage projects)
·         Additional documents may be requested depending on the project
